My Couture FAQ, a mini magazine for artists, musicians, fashionistas, collectors and business aficionados

1. Why did I want to start a magazine?

Mainly, I read so much information in the media regarding fashion, music production, the making of comic books, investing, and collecting that I wanted to start a magazine that had information that was more meaningful. It is based solely on trial and error, methods that worked and ones that didn't I have made in the pursuit of my dream as a songwriter, comic book artist, fashion designer, finance analyst, lawyer, and writer.  I think having first hand experience in actually drawing, collecting, designing fashion and 3d animation, being a songwriter/writer , collector, photographer, working in white/blue collar environments  and so on gives me an overall enhanced view of the production process. I’m hoping to curtail the amount of money musicians invest on things like compressors, mics, for comic book artists the right tools to work with at a budget they can afford, resources to make the whole process of production cost efficient, etc. Things of that nature.

2. How did I get into fashion?

Through my cousin Joji’s vintage collection. I started helping her out with different combination of garments from Gucci to Pucci to Versace, Chanel and she didn’t need to tell me but I knew what went good with what. I don’t know if it was from years of education and real work experience as an artist or seeking only to study under the best teachers, but coordinating her collections on a mannequin came like second nature to me. Ultimately, it was the popularity and proliferation of cosplay at comic book conventions. I felt like people weren’t really into originally written and illustrated comic books anymore and what started as a curiosity became an obsession. Not many opportunities really came along with getting a bachelor's degree in finance at San Jose State University, so that took me back to school where I am near in completing a degree in fashion, animation, and music production while working full time at the United States Postal Service. Besides a degree in finance, I also have degrees in fine arts, desktop publishing, and miscellaneous experience in income tax, and real estate investing having owned 4 homes at one time in my mid 20s.

3. How is my magazine different from the rest?

It will have useful information and help the artist navigate her/himself in the exploration process in the production of art. Some of the subjects I will discuss will be about the accumulation of memorabilia/art way below market price, it will be about protecting one’s interest, collecting sports memorabilia, investing. It will be a nice compliment to the myriad of information that's already out there on the internet. In the process, I'll also meander  into the actual experience of my journey as an artist, like meeting Madonna, Madison Bumgarner, Pablo Sandoval, Stan Lee, George Perez, etc.

3. How can people purchase my magazine?

The ETA is February 1 with a price of $5.99 and $2 for shipping and handling and in digest format, full color with a lot o text and a glimpse into my world of art, commerce, collecting, fashion, etc. It will be low print runs due to Covid. I don’t really have any venues to sell it to. Besides the articles, I will also have a preview of my comic book FHS - Freedom High School, a superhero comic book which takes place in Northern California in 1989. Truthfully, I'm very hesitant in starting My Couture because I don't want to give away my competitive advantage but seeing artists struggle, I feel it necessary to indulge myself in the conversation.

The PokemonGo! Murder Mystery

Things haven't been the same since Chris was stabbed in the face while playing PokemonGo! He used to be buff all over but you can clearly see the effects of the injury. His upper torso lost all its muscles and he gained weight in his stomach. There was a somber mood in the air with a couple of instances here and there where he seems to forget what had happened and make light of the unfortunate turn of events. People keep saying you're lucky you should take advantage of this situation, because the story is broadcast worldwide from Vietnam and to outlets like Telemundo. But the story is more or less than that. At the end of the day, I think Chris really just wants to get back from the abyss of flashbacks, the horror, and get back to the Chris that everyone knows, i.e. The Man, The Myth, The Legend. Chris Perguidi: The Man, The Myth, The Legend I've been in this position myself. This point where someone violates you in a way that it makes you sick to your stomach. I

Chris Perguidi: A new hero must rise!

Someone in boxing class asked me if my friend was coming to class. She’s seen his story in Metro and attended the previous class mentioned in the last blog. She was hoping he was okay and I wanted to reassure her that he was okay so I said, “He’s stronger than you think he is. He’s from Gilroy. He grew up around coyotes and played with them.” And I said all these with a straight face and no one thought to question… “coyotes?” Because the whole thing is just so bizarre, so complicated and it’s…  real! How did these people know Chris? He was stabbed in the face by 2 people, one, a stocky robust man, and another, a woman, in downtown San Jose who thought he was filming them while playing the phenomenon of the moment with more users than either Instagram or Facebook, PokemonGo! To iterate, when someone is stabbed, you're thinking chest, back, but the face?!? That in itself trumps growing up with coyotes and playing with them as a child. Media playing upon media, it’s like a neurot

Chris Perguidi: The Man, the Myth, the Legend

On the eve of my birthday I was trying to meet a deadline on an Erika America comic book. At about 3 AM, I finished the task and sent the PNG files over to my frequent collaborator and friend, Chris Perguidi. Erika Amerika is a character that Chris had me work on when we first met sometime back in 2008. EA is about a super heroine with an American Indian heritage. Since then, we have been working on projects together and have appeared many times in newspapers and television promoting our comic books like Herotown, Erika America, The Baby Warriors, etc. As soon as files were sent to his email, I would usually get a response and within hours or the next day I would get feedback usually in the form of ”Amazing”, “Fantastic”, but for some odd reason… nothing. A day passed and nothing, another day nothing. On the third day, as I opened my Facebook I saw this post (I couldn't get far enough on his FB to retrieve the actual post, but something similar to this about 4 days later):
