How to make your own Face Mask

Hello Everyone. I was going to make some masks for my Etsy site but my sewing machine broke and I guess Santa Clara could be in for a lockdown, some part of San Francisco already is and I heard from one of my sources that businesses are starting to close down in San Jose.

FYI for anyone that does not know me, I'm currently a Fashion / Music major with a BA in Business concentration Finance at SJSU, Associates in Art and Desktop Publishing, a comic book artist, musician, huge Madonna fan and SF Giants bay area sports fanatic, choreographer, etc. I am not a sewer, but it's just one of the things I have to learn to design clothes.

So anyone can do this. Industrial machines are extremely hard to learn, but home sewing machines are very easy. I mention this because home sewing machines might not be designed to churn out garments as mine broke down all of sudden today. You would need a sewing machine to make the sides look good, but if you can't sew just cut a rectangle and attach elastic bands or yarn on it. Basically, use whatever is on hand and recycle any fabric preferably cotton you may have.

Again, this is a disclaimer. This is for my own judgment on how I assume the virus is being transferred at an alarming rate and depending on what sources you read is not meant to protect you from the virus. I plan on using it with other filters, face masks etc. I have ordered online.

I made these because 3 weeks ago, I went to Home Depot and all the face masks were gone! So I'm making some for myself. The whole idea that it protects the person who is sick from contaminating other people and doesn't protect people who are not infected isn't registering in my brain but of my own risk am wearing masks anyways based on what makes sense to me and other sources that support my thought on the subject. And I could be wrong, but we're living in a crazy world and hopefully I'm not doing myself any harm by wearing these masks. Mainly, it will go outside of a regular surgical masks I have in supply from ones I bought during the wildfires and an inner one made of muslim to help preserve the little supply of surgical masks I have.

I have asthma and if I get infected with coronavirus if not already, I most likely will suffer. And for some weird reason people like to really get close to my face and talk to me. None of that is happening until the virus is contained, which I hope is soon as I really want to see a baseball game with The SF Giants or Bumgarner's D-Backs or any game the Houston Astros will play on.

An acquaintance of mine recently passed last December of pneumonia, the same with a teacher of mine in high school when I was 14 many years ago, and I myself was in a panic about 2 years ago when it was extremely hard for me to breath and I made 2 trips to the emergency room and having my aunt pray me back to health anything I could do to stay alive. Because it sucks having flu like symptoms. I've seen its effects and hope we will be out of this messed upped situation soon!

I was also looking at the various homeless people in the streets and it's not hard to understand why everyone is coming together to fight this virus. The repercussions are scary, and I don't mean to be funny but I really do want to see a Houston Astros game because I want to know how that plays out in the major leagues.

Check out Nicole Scherzinger, I think on her way back to the states from Australia performing with The Pussycat Dolls. Anyone can do this. Just cut fabric and place it on your face. (photo not mine.)

Directions:
 1. Cut to size using ruler an white chalk or pencil. This is a different fabric that I made. I was going to make more with different designs (I bought everything SF Giants when they had it on sale last year at Joann's so I have ample supply) but my sewing machine broke.
 This is the cut rectangle
 2. Fold in the sides to make it look professional.
3. Sew it in.

4. This is after sewing each side.
 5. Get elastic bands or yarn or anything you have on hand avoid going out at this critical time if you can. I find the thick ones about half an inch don't work well, so I cut it to something thin like a rubber band or the bands on those surgical masks that used to be available before coronavirus.
6. I used the mask I bought as a template and cut to size.
7. Fold the band to get 2 equal sizes and cut.

 8. Fold a little bit in the middle and sew. The surgical masks have 3 folds but forget that! Too much work!

9. This is what the final piece looks like.

10. This is my sewing machine breaking down. Peace! Be safe! And Disclaimer: This is not meant to protect you against the virus. I'm using my own judgment. I want a little bit of barrier from droplets that I may encounter when someone nearby sneezes or coughs. I will practice social distancing and will use my own judgment in how to combat this #coronavirus

The PokemonGo! Murder Mystery

Things haven't been the same since Chris was stabbed in the face while playing PokemonGo! He used to be buff all over but you can clearly see the effects of the injury. His upper torso lost all its muscles and he gained weight in his stomach. There was a somber mood in the air with a couple of instances here and there where he seems to forget what had happened and make light of the unfortunate turn of events. People keep saying you're lucky you should take advantage of this situation, because the story is broadcast worldwide from Vietnam and to outlets like Telemundo. But the story is more or less than that. At the end of the day, I think Chris really just wants to get back from the abyss of flashbacks, the horror, and get back to the Chris that everyone knows, i.e. The Man, The Myth, The Legend. Chris Perguidi: The Man, The Myth, The Legend I've been in this position myself. This point where someone violates you in a way that it makes you sick to your stomach. I

Chris Perguidi: A new hero must rise!

Someone in boxing class asked me if my friend was coming to class. She’s seen his story in Metro and attended the previous class mentioned in the last blog. She was hoping he was okay and I wanted to reassure her that he was okay so I said, “He’s stronger than you think he is. He’s from Gilroy. He grew up around coyotes and played with them.” And I said all these with a straight face and no one thought to question… “coyotes?” Because the whole thing is just so bizarre, so complicated and it’s…  real! How did these people know Chris? He was stabbed in the face by 2 people, one, a stocky robust man, and another, a woman, in downtown San Jose who thought he was filming them while playing the phenomenon of the moment with more users than either Instagram or Facebook, PokemonGo! To iterate, when someone is stabbed, you're thinking chest, back, but the face?!? That in itself trumps growing up with coyotes and playing with them as a child. Media playing upon media, it’s like a neurot

Chris Perguidi: The Man, the Myth, the Legend

On the eve of my birthday I was trying to meet a deadline on an Erika America comic book. At about 3 AM, I finished the task and sent the PNG files over to my frequent collaborator and friend, Chris Perguidi. Erika Amerika is a character that Chris had me work on when we first met sometime back in 2008. EA is about a super heroine with an American Indian heritage. Since then, we have been working on projects together and have appeared many times in newspapers and television promoting our comic books like Herotown, Erika America, The Baby Warriors, etc. As soon as files were sent to his email, I would usually get a response and within hours or the next day I would get feedback usually in the form of ”Amazing”, “Fantastic”, but for some odd reason… nothing. A day passed and nothing, another day nothing. On the third day, as I opened my Facebook I saw this post (I couldn't get far enough on his FB to retrieve the actual post, but something similar to this about 4 days later):
